Dr. Lennard Wolf
During his PhD thesis from 2008-2010 Lennard investigated ozone-induced
particle formation from unsaturated hydrocarbons within the graduate school
under the guidance of Thomas Zeuch,
following up on preliminary work in his "Hausarbeit".
Afterwards, he spent some time in our group as a postdoc before leaving in
June 2011 for a industry position in Hamburg (Eurofins GfA GmbH).
Dr. Susanne Hesse
Susanne joined our group in June 2005 for a diploma thesis on aminoacid
esters and peptide models in the gas phase.
In her PhD thesis (2006-09), she has investigated carbonyl groups as versatile
hydrogen bond acceptors.
She is now at the
Fraunhofer-Institut für
Toxikologie und Experimentelle Medizin in the field of assessment of
chemicals.
Dr. Zhifeng Xue
In 2007, Zhifeng carried out his diploma thesis on isomers of pentanol.
In his PhD studies, he has investigated carboxylic acid and water clusters
using Raman and IR spectroscopy.
He was awarded a
Molecular
Physics Young Author Prize 2010 and is now a postdoc in the group of
Sam Leutwyler in Berne.
Dr. Tobias Wassermann
Tobias joined our group in 2005 for a diploma thesis on proton transfer
systems in the gas phase.
From 2006 to 2009, he carried out the work for his PhD thesis on C-C and
C-O torsional dynamics and the influence of the molecular environment in
our group and in Marseille in
the framework of a "cotutelle", for which he received the
Albert-Weller-Prize
2010 of the GDCh-section Photochemistry and the DBG.
Afterwards, he spent some time in our group as a postdoc before leaving
in summer 2010 for a postdoctoral stay in the
Rizzo group in Lausanne.
He is now Assistant Editor for Chemistry at
Springer.
Dr. Merwe Albrecht
After a diploma thesis in 2005 and a PhD thesis from 2006 to 2009 on molecular
recognition, for which she got the Richard Zsigmondy prize 2009, Merwe spent
some time as a postdoc in our group before joining the
BAM in 2010.
Dr. Ingo Dauster joined our group in September 2004 for a
Diploma thesis.
In 2008, he completed his PhD thesis on sodium doping in a molecular beam
cluster spectrometer.
He is now a postdoc in the
Mauß
group in Cottbus.
In summer 2009, Jonas Thelemann has completed his
Bachelor thesis in the field of alkane spectroscopy.

In summer 2008, Maik Renziehausen has helped to design some
experiments in UV/Vis spectroscopy for our
advanced practical course in physical
chemistry in the context of his "Staatsexamensarbeit".
J. Kupferschmid, was our secretary until she retired in 2008.
She is still helping us occasionally, in particular when it comes to
conference organization.

Dr. Tina Scharge
Tina joined our group in April 2004 for a Diploma thesis.
She has investigated the effect of fluorine on the aggregation of alcohols.
During her PhD work, she has continued the study of weak hydrogen bond
interactions, including some new supersonic nozzle designs.
After completion of the PhD in 2007, she continued work on mixing nozzles
and halogenated alcohols including Raman spectroscopy.
Since June 2008, Tina is working in Braunschweig at GRS (www.grs.de).
Dr. René Larsen joined our group in February 2006 to investigate
bending and librational modes of hydrogen-bonded clusters and left us in Spring 2008 for
another postdoc in Berkeley.
He revisited us in fall 2010 for extended far infrared studies.
Dr. Rudolf Tuckermann joined our group in October 2006 for research on
particulate matter and is now teaching physics and chemistry in Braunschweig.

Philipp has joined our group in April 2003 for a PhD thesis on Raman spectroscopy in
supersonic jets.
Before, he did his diploma thesis in Kiel in the group of Grotemeyer.
After having established the first jet spectrometer for hydrogen-bonded
clusters based on spontaneous Raman scattering and having finished his PhD
in 2007, he has worked on a much improved version, funded by the DFG.
He left us for a postdoc at the UBC in Vancouver in the group of
Ruth Signorell,
in December 2007.

In 2003, Corey spent three months with our group during his Masters thesis at Southern
Illinois University at Edwardsville with Professor Lea O'Brien. From 2004 to 2007, he
carried out a PhD project on FTIR spectroscopy of biomolecular model systems in the
framework of our graduate school (www.pcgg.de), with
particular emphasis on the N-H chromophore and on developing heatable nozzles. In August
2007, he has joined the group of John Maier in Basel as a postdoctoral fellow.

Christine joined our group in 2004 from Paris as a postdoc of the graduate
school (www.pcgg.de).
She worked on the modeling of hydrogen-bonded cluster dynamics and helped
in the organization of the graduate school.
Now, she is back in France, as a biophysics assistant professor in Amiens.
Dr. Marcus Weimann
Marcus has completed his diploma work on the dissociation of acids in water
clusters.
In his PhD thesis, he has carried out far-infrared and size-selected cluster
spectroscopy in a joint project with the Buck
group.
He is now with Continental-Contitech
(Conveyor Belt Group, R&D), Northeim.
Hans-Martin Loritz; E-Mail: h.m.loritz[at]fz-juelich.de Hans-Martin joined our group in May 2005 for a Diploma thesis on inhalation
anesthetics. He is now carrying out a PhD thesis at the FZ Jülich.

Thomas joined our group in November 2004 for his Diploma thesis on chiral recognition. He
spent some time in Bonn in the group of M. Reiher, to obtain
accurate structural and dynamical predictions for the diastereomeric clusters. In 2005, he
joined the group of H.-J. Werner in
Stuttgart to develop methods for the accurate treatment of electron correlations.
E. Matyus, Budapest, ematyus[at]axelero.hu,
has participated in a small research project in autumn 2005
PD Dr. D. Luckhaus was
guest professor in Göttingen from 2002 - 2005 and cooperates with us in the field of
hydrogen bond dynamics.

In her diploma thesis (Schwingungsdynamik von Carbonsäureaggregaten), Corinna has
investigated hydrogen bonding in carboxylic acid dimers using our powerful ragout-jet FTIR
spectrometer. In her PhD thesis, she has studied donor/acceptor preferences and
isomerizations in hydrogen bonded clusters. In June 2005, she joined the group of Evan Bieske
at the University of Melbourne with a DAAD scholarship.
Since October 2006, she is with Merck, Darmstadt.

Nicole studied diastereomeric interactions and self-organization in her diploma and
doctoral theses. For alpha-hydroxyesters, she found remarkable chiral recognition effects.
Furthermore, she set up what is probably the world's largest operational slit jet
spectrometer, featuring a 600 × 0.2 mm slit and a gas flow of up to 2 mol per pulse. In
March 2005, Nicole joined the groups of Yunjie
Xu and Wolfgang Jäger at the
University of Alberta with a DAAD scholarship.
Dr. Anthony Bonnamy joined our group and that of Ruth Signorell
as a postdoc to work on supercritical fluid expansions and on the dynamics of amorphous
molecular clusters in the framework of the SFB
602. Now he is back in France.

Michal joined our group in January 2002 with a Humboldt fellowship, extending our research
towards ionizing systems. Later, he became involved in a joint project with the Buck group on size selected cluster spectroscopy. Now
he is back in Prague at the Heyrovsky institute.

(business) Yaqian, the first postdoc in the Physics&Chemistry graduate school (www.pcgg.de), came from the group of Wolfgang Jäger to study the vibrational
dynamics of alkyne hydrogen bonds and to extend the range of our ragout-jet FTIR
spectrometer into the far infrared. She also did a wonderful job in the organization of
the graduate school. In April 2004, Yaqian joined the polymer physics department of BASF, and
in 2007 she changed to BASF Future Business.
Dr. Mikhail Pachkov spent 6 months in our group and that of Ruth Signorell
to help setting up a supercritical fluid expansion system in the framework of the SFB 602.

In his diploma thesis under the guidance of Ruth Signorell,
Martin has studied the IR spectra of nanometer-sized particles. Subsequently, he joined
the new group of Ruth Signorell where he worked towards his PhD (2005). He is now working
at K+S (R&D), Heringen.

Ruth has joined us for post-doctoral research on the spectroscopy and characterization of
non-volatile nanometer-sized particles in 2000. She started working towards her
habilitation in 2001 but was offered the position of the first Junior Professor at the
institute in 2002. In mid-2005, she became associate professor at the University of British Columbia (Vancouver, Canada).

Marc came from Gießen to carry out IR spectroscopic studies in an enclosive flow cooling
cell which was developed by GKSS/University of Braunschweig. The cell is now operational
and provides important insights into the vibrational and condensation dynamics of a range
of volatile compounds. After completion of his PhD early 2002 he joined the company L.O.T.-Oriel in Darmstadt.

Nastya has participated in some supersonic jet measurements of HCl
clusters. Back in Moscow, she is studying these clusters using quantum chemistry
tools.

In his diploma thesis, Dirk has studied the influence of bulky groups on alcohol
association by experimental and theoretical methods.
Now he is working towards a PhD at the MPI for Biophysics in Frankfurt.
